Both research degrees are in<br \/>\napplied physics but on different <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waldemark.se\/jwal\/projects.html\">projects<\/a> related to multivariate analysis, signal analysis<br \/>\nand AI applications.<\/p>\n<p><b>Teaching<\/b><br \/>\nI started to work as a lecturer and researcher after I received my Ph.D. in June 1996. I<br \/>\nworked full time as an instructor and Ph.D. candidate during the period 1990-08 to 1996-06.<br \/>\nFirst at the Dept. of Physics and then later at the Dept. of Applied Physics and Electronics,<br \/>\nat Ume\u00e5 University. I taught frequently during this time. I now have, all together, a total of<br \/>\nmore than 2 years full-time teaching. I have experience in teaching both undergraduate and<br \/>\ngraduate students as well as acting as a tutor and\/or examiner for several M.Sc. diploma<br \/>\nstudents. I have also developed an entirely new course in Cognitive Signal Processing and<br \/>\nworked in course preparation and design. My primary interests are in electronics, control,<br \/>\nsignal processing and artificial intelligence but I have also been involved in energy technology<br \/>\ncourses as well as an invited lecturer in medical technology and radiology classes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Research<\/b><br \/>\nMy Master Thesis attends different optical \u201cnon touching\u201d LASER speckle methods for<br \/>\nsurface displacements and displacement derivatives, e.g. surface strain. Several measurement<br \/>\narrangements, such as single beam arrangements, speckle interferometer and speckle shearing<br \/>\ninterferometer, was studied along with a number of analysis methods and techniques, for example,<br \/>\nYoung\u2019s fringe method, Fourier filtering and digital image processing systems.<\/p>\n<p>My Ph.lic. thesis addresses the problem of multiple time series prediction of non (or semi)<br \/>\nstationary time series. I use Feedforward neural networks to improve prediction results<br \/>\ncompared to linear regression models. The method is applied on predicting the heat load at<br \/>\nseveral district heating plants in Sweden. Several prediction models are developed and tested.<br \/>\nThe models use both measured outdoor temperatures as well as prediction of future temperatures<br \/>\nas inputs. The output is either single step output (single output, one day or one hour) or a<br \/>\ncombination of many different prediction times (multiple outputs).<\/p>\n<p><b>Ph.D.<\/b><br \/>\nMy Ph.D. thesis focuses on possible solutions to a selection of problems related to satellite<br \/>\nmeasurements and data analysis using modern computer intelligence methods and non-linear<br \/>\nsignal analysis. The main task was to develop methods that could automate different parts of<br \/>\nthe data analysis. A further aim was to investigate methods on how instrument analysis and<br \/>\nre-calibration in orbit could be made where the only information available was the downloaded<br \/>\nmeasured data. I used serveral hybrid methods, e.g. traditional signal processing, cluster analysis,<br \/>\nneural networks and expert systems to solve the problems.<\/p>\n<p><b>Post doc<\/b><br \/>\nI received a two year scholarship (post-doc) financed by the Swedish Research Council for<br \/>\nEngineering (VR) to continue my research at the Royal Institute of Technology (Manne Siegbahn Laboratory)<br \/>\nin Stockholm during 1997 and 1998. The research focus on non-linear methods, biologically inspired<br \/>\nneural nets and hardware implementations (mainly FPGA technology). I also spend a part of<br \/>\nmy time on a multiple sensor data analysis project aiming for near real-time odor identification<br \/>\ntogether with Auburn University in Alabama and Lexington University in Kentucky USA. I mainly<br \/>\nconcentrated on the data analysis and feature level signal processing of the multiple gas sensor<br \/>\nsystem. I also assisted in several minor projects during this time, for example, medicine, high-<br \/>\nenergy particle physics, and data mining projects. I also continued to teach and supervise<br \/>\ndiploma works and pure consulting tasks for various industry applications.<br \/>\nA short summaryof my current and previous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waldemark.se\/jwal\/projects.html\">research projects<\/a> is found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waldemark.se\/jwal\/projects.html\">here<\/a>, you may<br \/>\nalso view my list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waldemark.se\/jwal\/jwpubli.html\">publications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Work at Ericsson SAAB Avionics<\/b><br \/>\nI worked as a project manager together with one colleague at Ericsson SAAB Avionics at<br \/>\nKista, Sweden, during 1998-99. Our responsibilities were the overall reconnaissance system<br \/>\nfor the JAS 39 Gripen fighter aircraft. This work did not only focus on the system itself it also<br \/>\nincluded pod design, pod supplier evaluation and installation descriptions for the pod. The same<br \/>\nwork as for the pod was true for sensor evaluation and the computer controlled reconnaissance<br \/>\nmanagement system. The initial phase in this project included many marketing meeting and<br \/>\nnegotiations with both the Swedish Airforce and international sub-contractors. We also had<br \/>\nresponsibility to cover the new technologies related to image and signal processing and advance<br \/>\npattern recognition systems.<\/p>\n<p><b>Work at Optronic Partner dp AB<\/b><br \/>\nMy current employment is at Optronic partner dp AB in Skellefte\u00e5, Sweden. My responsibility<br \/>\nis first of all local management for the developing department in Skellefte\u00e5 together with a colleague.<br \/>\nWe have responsibilities for the economy, budget, results and our staff. I am also a project manager<br \/>\nand run product development projects for various customers (partners).
